Slot Canyon

Slot Canyon, Drawing
Slot Canyon
Charcoal and graphite pencil drawing on Arches hot press watercolor paper.

Based on a series of photos I took while hiking in some slot canyons near Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument in Utah. The light and shadows in these canyons are complex, some direct, but a lot of it is reflected. Also, the lines in the rock itself, formed over a long period of time by water and wind, create interesting and sometimes complex patters that play with the light. These are the things I tried to capture in this drawing.
