I was excited to drive to Crissy Field to paint this piece, inspired by the bridge-less painting of 1865 by Thomas Ross. It was cold and windy, and I had only one session available to me for this size. I began my painting with the shape of the land-form behind the bridge, which looks identical with that land-form today.
