Hannah in the Singing Forest

Hannah in the Singing Forest, Figure & Portrait
Hannah in the Singing Forest
Young women in a forest with brilliant light shown through the trees in the distance. The woman's form is well-articulated but the forest is more implied than detailed. Both the woman and the forest are characters in this piece and she is in an attitude of surprise or wonder, listening to the forest. The northern forests where I live have a short growing season so the greenery is riotous in the summer and I wanted to capture that. In this piece I mean to create a sense of a folktale where none actually exists; I want the viewer to construct their own story, and for the story to change as the viewer changes. And I wanted to create a sense that the woman belongs in that space, that emotionally she is a part of wild nature and not distinct from it.
