Wanderstruck
Painted from a plein air painting I did in Crested Butte, this studio painting is about my hike through the aspens in June with all the new greens and spring bringing the aspen forest to life. This painting is about new beginnings, looking around us while we travel, taking in wander and joy. The greens in June were fresh and vibrant. I did not want to downplay their vibrancy, but rather celebrate it, juxaposed the variety of grays, violets and warm grays in the aspen trucks in the shadows. I explored the nuances within the green and yellow/green color family as the filtered light flickered and affected the greens. I also wanted to capture the playful dance like quality of the aspen grove and their delicate branches.
