Bird in Hand
We discovered a bird had knocked itself out on a window, thinking at first that it was dead, but I saw it move and picked it up. We moved to the front porch, where I sat cradling the bird in my hands, and bringing a drop of water to its beak. At first, it was lifeless, and had a bit of spider's web and leaf debris on its body. It was like holding an origami crane, it was that weightless and so delicate. I asked my artist husband to take photos, as I was holding the bird and posing this way and that (perhaps this will disqualify me from this entry?). In about 5 minutes, it flew off into the bushes. I could breathe, again.
