Conserving Nature, Preserving Hope

In 2021 the Bruce Trail Conservancy acquired a 533 acre parcel of incredible wilderness on the Saugeen Bruce Peninsula In Ontario, Canada along the Niagara Escarpment. I visited the newly named Maple Cross Nature Reserve this summer to paint plein air. While the trail there includes the incredible vistas of Georgian Bay I headed down the trail I love in search of those moss covered rocks that have been challenging me this summer! I made a decent start and came home with a brain full of visual images and light. The next day, I scrubbed the pastel off of my board, and started again! “Conserving Nature, Preserving Hope” is a nod to the visionaries and volunteers of the Bruce Trail Conservancy and the Bruce Peninsula Bruce Trail Club who continue to work in positive ways to conserve, protect and share our wild and precious places.
